Cannot connect to the database

What to do if the server name can be found but the database cannot when connecting to Orchestrate.

Written by Arthur Ashdown

This issue occurs when clicking More Options on the user ID and password screen — the server name is visible but the database cannot be found. This is most commonly experienced by new starters whose Windows account has not yet been added to the Orchestrate database in SQL Server Management Studio.

⚠️Important: This is an on-premise, environmental issue. Please contact your IT department or third-party IT provider to check and configure the database permissions using the steps below.

Add a Windows account to the Orchestrate database

To grant a user access to the Orchestrate database, your IT administrator will need to complete the following steps in SQL Server Management Studio:

  1. Launch SQL Server Management Studio.

  2. Connect to the Orchestrate database instance.

  3. Expand Security, then expand Logins.

  4. Right-click Logins and select New Login.

  5. Enter the username with the domain, for example DOMAIN\JohnDoe.

  6. Select User Mapping, then tick Map for the Orchestrate databases.

  7. Click OK.
