Error: 'Orchestrate cannot validate your network licence. Unable to connect to licence server'

What to do if you cannot launch Orchestrate because it cannot validate your network licence or connect to the licence server.

Written by Arthur Ashdown

If you see the following error when trying to launch Orchestrate, there are two possible causes: the licence server name has not been configured correctly, or the LM-X licence server service has stopped.

⚠️Error: Orchestrate cannot validate your network licence. Unable to connect to licence server.

Work through the solutions below in order. Try launching Orchestrate again after each solution to check whether the issue is resolved.

Solution 1: Check the licence server name

The licence server name may be missing or incorrect in the Licence Manager. To check and update it:

  1. Launch Orchestrate.

  2. Click Cancel on the logon form.

  3. Select Help, then select Licence Manager.

  4. Tick Use Network Licence.

  5. Enter a valid server name in the Server Name field.

  6. Click OK.

Solution 2: Start the LM-X licence server service

If the correct server name is already entered in the Licence Manager, the LM-X licence server service may have stopped. To restart it, complete the following steps on the server where the LM-X software is installed (SQL, App, or RDS server):

  1. Type Services in the Windows menu, then press Enter.

  2. Select any service from the list and press the L key on your keyboard to jump to services beginning with L.

  3. Select LM-X Licence Server 4.7.5.

  4. Click Start the service.

📌Note: If you see the error 'Error 1053 — The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion', follow the steps in the linked article.
