Information the task history shows and which properties are tracked

Written by Charnjit Singh Dharival

What is the task history suppose to show when dragging tasks to different dates on the plan?

The task history records when a task is moved and when the task status is changed (e.g. Ready to Start to Started).

When you drag the task for the first time and save the plan, you only see the History Created Date and Updated By fields. When you drag the task a second time and saved the plan, more information is displayed. i.e. Overall Start Date, Start Date and Finish Date, as well as the History Created Date and Updated By.

The functionality has been enhanced in Orchestrate version 7.75 to show when tasks are unplanned and deleted. Also, entries are now created on the initial save, when the task is first committed to the database.

Not all the amendments are shown in the Task History:

  • Task history is only available for the Current Plan (to maintain plan performance).

  • Task History only works on changes saved into the databases.

  • If multiple changes are being made to a task in memory and the plan is then saved, only the last record will be visible in the Task History form.

  • When the task was just created and the plan save, you will see one entry in the Task History screen.

  • The columns that are not visible in the form, means those values are the same as what you see in Edit Tasks panel.

  • Columns will only display when a change has been made (for example, a change to the Description).

  • When moving the task on the plan (either from Gantt Chart or Edit Tasks) and the plan is then saved, the new record will be visible and all the columns with different values will be shown.

  • The blue highlight of the cell means the value was changed from the previous value.

  • Moving the task on a different primary resource, will be recorded (secondary resources are not recorded).

Properties tracked by Task History are:

  • Description

  • Overall Start Date, Start Date, Finish Date

  • Use Setup Table, Use Rate Table

  • Duration

  • Rate Value, Rate Type

  • Primary Resource

  • Quantity

  • Item, Order, Op Step

  • Earliest Start Date

  • Deadline Date

  • Notes

  • Status

Properties that are not tracked by Task History

  • Secondary Resource

  • Prod / Usages

  • Additional Task Attributes
