Run tasks on multiple resources at the same time

Written by Charnjit Singh Dharival

A machine resource requires three workers, Labour Resources, to run at the same time, on the Gantt Chart.

There are a few options to explore here:-

  1. A ‘bolt on’ to your current Orchestrate set up. Part routes remain unchanged.

  2. A change to the routes of parts on FactoryMaster (FM) along with a change of the Orchestrate set up.

  3. Using a swim lane resource is another option.

For example, if you have three labour resources set to run within a machine resource, the naming convention of each resource would be akin to: MAC1, LAB1, LAB2, LAB3

Imagine they are cutting machines; comprised of two tables where the arm will cut a part from one table (task 1) and then table 2(other task on same resource).

The units per hour on the route only considers one of the tasks. The work duration needs to be split evenly between the two tasks on the same resource.

Another example is you have a machine in production that uses three staff to run it. You have one feeding material into the machine, the second inspecting the processed raw material when coming out of the machine and the third boxing and palletising the finished goods. You ideally wanted to use a single resource and attribute three members of staff to this manufacturing line.

Another option is for the consultant to assess your business requirements. For example, if the net rate of the machine depends upon the combination of parts that are being processed in parallel, then we have a plugin that does that.

Whichever option you go for will require chargeable consultancy.
