Steps to create a new role in Orchestrate and assign it to a user.

Written by Charnjit Singh Dharival

You can create custom roles in Orchestrate to control what users can access and do within the system. Once a role is created and its permissions are configured, you can assign it to any user. Follow the steps below to create a new role and change a user's role.

⚠️Important: In this example, the new role is based on the Viewer role, with additional permissions to view and filter in the Task Planner and insert a comment. Adjust the licence feature and permissions to suit your own role requirements.

Create a new role

To add a new role to the system, use the Role Management area.

  1. Log in to Orchestrate and select Tools.

  2. Select Orchestrate Users.

  3. Select File, then select User Management.

  4. Select Role Management.

  5. Click Add.

  6. Type a name and description for the new role.

  7. Select a licence feature. For example, if your new role is based on the Viewer role, select Read_Only.

  8. Click Save, then click Exit.

Set role permissions

Once the role has been created, assign the relevant permissions to it.

  1. Select Role Permissions.

  2. Select the newly created role from the list of available roles.

  3. Tick Allow for the relevant permissions.

  4. Click OK.

Change a user's role

Once the role and its permissions are configured, you can assign it to a user.

  1. Select User Management.

  2. Select the user you want to assign the new role to, then click Change User Role.

  3. Tick the checkbox next to the new role.

  4. Click Save, then click Exit.
